Naticidae – Polinicinae: Conuber tasmanicum (Tenison-Woods, 1876) (‘Tasmanian sand-snail’)

Synonym(s): tasmanicum Tenison-Woods, 1876 controversus Pritchard & Gatliff, 1913.

Typical shell-length 20 mm. Umbilicus closed. Shell often spirally banded partly brown and partly off-white. Lives subtidally in sand, in moderately exposed environments. Native. Endemic to southeastern Australia (TAS only). In Tasmanian waters, this is a locally common species in the SE, but rare or absent elsewhere.
