Bathyteuthidae: Bathyteuthis abyssicola Hoyle, 1885 (‘bathyal deepsea-squid’)

Synonym(s): megalops Verrill, 1885 abyssicola Hoyle, 1885.

Typical mantle-length 70 mm. Lives in offshore waters. Native. Occurs inAustralia (QLD, NSW, TAS, VIC, SA, WA and NT); also widespread in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. In Tasmanian waters, this species occurs well offshore, with available records all from off the southeast coast.
