Typical shell-length 15 mm. Spire profile somewhat stepped; blotchy colour-patterning characteristic. Lives subtidally and offshore on sponges and bryozoans in sandy areas. Native. Endemic to southeastern and southwestern Australia (TAS, VIC, SA and WA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a widespread species; more commonly beached than related species.
