Chiroteuthidae: Chiroteuthis mega (Joubin, 1932) (‘big long-armed squid’)
Synonym(s): capensis Voss, 1867 atlanticus MacDonald & Clench, 1934 mega Joubin, 1932.
Typical mantle-length 125 mm. Lives in offshore waters. Native. Occurs in southeastern Australia (TAS and perhaps other states); also widespread in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. In Tasmanian waters, this species has been recorded as beak(s) recovered from the guts of beached whale(s).
