Trochidae – Trochinae: Clanculus aloysii Tenison-Woods, 1876 (‘Saint Aloysius’ top-shell’)

Synonym(s): aloysii Tenison-Woods, 1876.

Typical shell-length 10 mm. Extent of dark checkering varies, from almost absent to near-complete suffusion. Lives subtidally amongst seaweed and seagrass, especially in moderately sheltered environments. Native. Endemic to southeastern Australia (NSW, TAS and VIC). In Tasmanian waters, this is a widespread and often common species.
