Cranchiidae – Cranchiinae: Cranchia scabra Leach, 1817 (‘rough cranch-squid’)

Synonym(s): scabra Leach, 1817.

Typical mantle-length 120 mm. Lives in offshore waters in midwater. Native. Occurs in eastern Australia (QLD, NSW and TAS); also elsewhere in the Pacific Ocean. In Tasmanian waters, this species has been recorded as beak(s) recovered from the guts of beached whale(s).
