Cycloteuthidae: Discoteuthis laciniosa Young & Roper, 1969 (‘fringed squid’)

Synonym(s): laciniosa Young & Roper, 1969.

Typical mantle-length 60 mm. Lives in offshore waters in midwater. Native. Occurs in southeastern Australia (TAS and perhaps other states); also widespread in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. In Tasmanian waters, this species has been recorded as beak(s) recovered from the guts of beached whale(s).
