Volutidae – Cymbiinae: Ericusa sowerbyi (Kiener, 1839) (‘Sowerby’s volute’)

Synonym(s): sowerbyi Kiener, 1839 fusiformis Swainson, 1822 (non Brocchi, 1814) perspecta Iredale, 1929 porcellana Jackson, 1954 stokesi Cotton, 1961.

Typical shell-length 160 mm. Lives subtidally and offshore on sand and mud, emerging at night to feed. Native. Endemic to southern and eastern Australia (QLD, NSW, TAS, VIC and SA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a widespread species, but seldom beached intact.
