Psammobiidae: Hiatula alba (Lamarck, 1818) (‘white sunset-shell’)
Synonym(s): alba Lamarck, 1818 florida Gould, 1850 (non Turton, 1822) donacioides Reeve, 1857 onuphria Iredale, 1936.
Typical shell-length 45 mm. Posterior and anterior margins almost parallel. Shell thin and normally bluish, rarely white. Periostracum thin and rarely fully persistent. Lives intertidally and subtidally in sand and mud, especially in sheltered environments. Native. Occurs all around Australia (QLD, NSW, TAS, VIC, SA, WA and NT); not recorded elsewhere. In Tasmanian waters, this is a rare species, most often recorded in the SE.
