Histioteuthidae: Histioteuthis atlantica (Hoyle, 1885) (‘Atlantic jewel-squid’)
Synonym(s): atlantica Hoyle, 1885.
Typical mantle-length 200 mm. Lives in offshore waters in midwater. Native. Occurs in southeastern Australia (TAS and VIC); also widespread in the cool temperate zones of both hemispheres. In Tasmanian waters, this species has been recorded as beak(s) recovered from the guts of beached whale(s).
