Laternulidae: Laternula (Laternula) tasmanica (Reeve, 1863) (‘Tasmanian lantern-shell’)

Synonym(s): tasmanica Reeve, 1863.

Typical shell-length 55 mm. Umbones placed centrally. Lives intertidally and subtidally in mud in estuarine and other sheltered environments. Native. Endemic to southeastern Australia (NSW, TAS, VIC and SA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a widespread and locally common species.
