Lycoteuthidae: Lycoteuthis lorigera (Steenstrup, 1875) (‘crowned firefly-squid’)
Synonym(s): lorigera Steenstrup, 1875 diadema Chun, 1900 jattai Pfeffer, 1900 planctonicum Pfeffer, 1912 inermis Robson, 1926.
Typical mantle-length 180 mm. Lives in offshore waters in midwater. Native. Occurs in southern Australia (TAS and SA); also New Zealand. In Tasmanian waters, this species has been recorded as beak(s) recovered from the guts of beached whale(s).
