Volutidae – Volutinae: Lyria mitraeformis (Lamarck, 1811) (‘mitre-shaped volute’)
Synonym(s): mitraeformis Lamarck, 1811 multicostata Broderip, 1827 kimberi Cotton, 1932.
Typical shell-length 50 mm. Specimen illustrated is juvenile and worn; fresh specimens darker with more prominent axial ribs. Lives subtidally on sand and amongst rocks, emerging at night to feed. Native. Endemic to southeastern and southwestern Australia (TAS, VIC, SA and WA). In Tasmanian waters, this species is confined to the N coast and Bass Strait islands.
