Mactridae – Mactrinae: Mactra (Nannomactra) jacksonensis E. A. Smith, 1885 (‘Port Jackson trough-shell’)

Synonym(s): jacksonensis E. A. Smith, 1885 matthewsi Tate, 1889.

Typical shell-length 13 mm. Variable in degree of development of radial rays, and in basal colour, which may be pink, yellow, brown or white. Lives subtidally in sand in exposed environments. Native. Endemic to southeastern Australia (NSW, TAS, VIC and SA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a locally abundant species along the E and N coast and around the Bass Strait islands.
