Mactridae – Mactrinae: Mactra (Mactra) pura Reeve, 1854 (‘white trough-shell’)

Synonym(s): pura Reeve, 1854 virgo Reeve, 1854.

Typical shell-length 50 mm. Uniformly white. Shell has a broader outline than that of M. australis. Lives subtidally in sand, especially in moderately exposed environments. Native. Endemic to southeastern and southwestern Australia (TAS, VIC, SA and WA). In Tasmanian waters, this species is restricted to the N coast and Bass Strait islands, where locally common.
