Mactridae – Mactrinae: Mactrotoma (Mactroderma) antecedens (Iredale, 1930) (‘oval trough-shell’)

Synonym(s): antecedens Iredale, 1930 flindersi Cotton & Godfrey, 1938.

Typical shell-length 40 mm. Lives subtidally in sand in moderately sheltered environments. Native. Endemic to southern and eastern Australia (QLD, NSW, TAS, VIC and SA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a widespread species but seldom common, though more predictably so in the SE.
