Columbellidae – Atiliinae: Mitrella (Dentimitrella) austrina (Gaskoin, 1852) (‘southern dove-shell’)

Synonym(s): austrina Gaskoin, 1851 nux Reeve, 1858 infumata Crosse, 1863.

Typical shell-length 12 mm. Shape and blotchy peach colouration is characteristic. Lives subtidally amongst seaweed and seagrass, typically in moderately exposed environments. Native. Endemic to southeastern and southwestern Australia (NSW, TAS, VIC, SA and WA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a widespread and common species in the N and E; rare or absent to the S.
