Muricidae – Typhinae: Monstrotyphis yatesi (Crosse & P. Fischer, 1865) (‘Yates’ murex’)

Synonym(s): yatesi Crosse & Fischer, 1865.

Typical shell-length 25 mm. Lives subtidally and offshore amongst rocks and seaweed. Native. Endemic to southeastern Australia (TAS, VIC and SA). In Tasmanian waters, this species is probably confined to Bass Strait; not usually beached, but has been recorded on Flinders Island.
