Acanthochitonidae – Acanthochitoninae: Notoplax speciosa (H. Adams, 1862) (‘pretty chiton’)

Synonym(s): speciosa H. Adams, 1861 spongialis Ashby, 1923.
Typical shell-length 45 mm. Lives subtidally and offshore amongst sponges, on which it feeds. Native. Occurs in southeastern Australia (NSW, TAS, VIC and SA); also New Zealand.
