Octopoteuthidae: Octopoteuthis sicula Rüppell, 1844 (‘Rüppell’s octopus-squid’)

Synonym(s): sicula Rüppell, 1844.
Typical mantle-length 200 mm. Lives in offshore waters. Native. Occurs in southeastern Australia (TAS only); also the northeast Atlantic Ocean. In Tasmanian waters there are records of this species from well offshore, off the south coast; however, they may refer to a different species since Tasmania is well beyond the normal range for this species.
