Octopodidae – Octopodinae: Octopus tetricus Gould, 1852 (‘gloomy octopus’)
Synonym(s): tetricus Gould, 1852 boscii Gray, 1849.
Typical body-length 550 mm. Lives subtidally and offshore amongst rocks and seaweed. Native. Endemic to southeastern and southwestern Australia (QLD, NSW, TAS, VIC, SA and WA). In Tasmanian waters, this species appears to be progressively colonising the E coast from further north.
