Ostreidae – Ostreinae: Ostrea (Eostrea) angasi G. B. Sowerby II, 1871 (‘common mud-oyster’)

Synonym(s): angasi Sowerby, 1871 rutipina Tenison-Woods, 1878 sinuata Cotton & Godfrey, 1938.
Typical shell-length 170 mm. Lives subtidally on sand and mud in sheltered environments, sometimes in dense accretions. Native. Endemic to southeastern and southwestern Australia (NSW, TAS, VIC, SA and WA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a widespread and common species; once more abundant but overharvested for food.
