Nassariidae – Nassariinae: Phrontis compacta (Angas, 1865) (‘compact dog-whelk’)

Typical shell-length 9.0 mm. Variable in colouration, but small size, coarse ribbing and narrow outline are characteristic. Lives subtidally amongst rocks and seaweed. Native. Endemic to southeastern and southwestern Australia (TAS, VIC, SA and WA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a widespread species, but only common in the N.
