Pteriidae: Pinctada sugillata (Reeve, 1857) (‘bruised pearl-oyster’)
Synonym(s): sugillata Reeve, 1857 albina Lamarck, 1819 irradians Reeve, 1857 fimbriata Reeve, 1857 carcharium Jameson, 1901.
Typical shell-length 150 mm. Lives intertidally and subtidally. Native. Occurs in northern, eastern and southern Australia (QLD, NSW, TAS and SA); also elsewhere in the Indo-Pacific. In Tasmania this species has only been found as juveniles attached to floating pumice which has drifted from warmer waters.
