Mopaliidae: Plaxiphora (Plaxiphora) albida (Blainville, 1825) (‘whitened chiton’)

Synonym(s): albida Blainville, 1825 costata Blainville, 1825 glaucus Quoy & Gaimard, 1835 mawlei Iredale & Hull, 1926.
Typical shell-length 50 mm. A large species, characteristic of exposed shores where it is often prominent on the upper surface of rocks. Lives intertidally attached to rocks on exposed shores. Native. Endemic to southeastern and southwestern Australia (QLD, NSW, TAS, VIC, SA and WA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a widespread and common species; sometimes beached intact.
