Muricidae – Muricinae: Pterochelus triformis (Reeve, 1845) (‘three-cornered murex’)

Synonym(s): triformis Reeve, 1845 bipunctatus Sowerby, 1879 zonatus Tenison-Woods, 1877.
Typical shell-length 60 mm. Lives subtidally amongst rocks and seaweed. Native. Endemic to southeastern and southwestern Australia (TAS, VIC, SA and WA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a common species along the N coast and around the Bass Strait islands, rarer or absent to the S. Beached shells are seldom in good condition.
