Carditidae – Venericardiinae: Purpurocardia bimaculata (Deshayes, 1854) (‘splashed false-cockle’)
Synonym(s): bimaculata Deshayes, 1854 atkinsoni Tenison-Woods, 1876.
Typical shell-length 15 mm. Lives subtidally in sand in moderately exposed environments. Native. Endemic to southeastern Australia (TAS, VIC and SA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a widespread species; most common in the SE.
