Nuculanidae – Nuculaninae: Saccella crassa (Hinds, 1843) (‘heavy nut-shell’)

Synonym(s): crassa Hinds, 1843.
Typical shell-length 33 mm. Adult shell is heavily thickened, but most beached shells are juveniles. Lives subtidally and offshore in sand, especially in moderately exposed environments. Native. Endemic to southeastern Australia (NSW, TAS, VIC and SA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a widespread and locally common species, especially in the SE.
