Synonym(s): hoylei Goodrich, 1896 chuni Pfeffer, 1912 dofleini Pfeffer, 1912.
Typical mantle-length 200 mm. Lives in offshore waters in midwater. Native. Occurs in southeastern Australia (TAS and perhaps other states); also widespread in warmer oceanic waters worldwide. In Tasmanian waters, this species has been recorded as beak(s) recovered from the guts of beached whale(s).
