Trochidae – Stomatellinae: Stomatella impertusa (Burrow, 1815) (‘common ear-shell’)
Synonym(s): impertusa Burrow, 1815 planulata Lamarck, 1827 strigosa A. Adams, 1850.
Typical shell-length 25 mm. Colour-pattern varies. Lives intertidally and subtidally attached to rocks. Native. Occurs all around Australia (QLD, NSW, TAS, VIC, SA, WA and NT – perhaps more than one species involved over this range); not recorded elsewhere. In Tasmanian waters, this species is largely confined to the N coast and the Bass Strait islands, where it is uncommon.
