Typical mantle-length 1500 mm. Lives in offshore waters. Native. Occurs ineastern Australia (QLD, NSW, TAS and VIC); also elsewhere in tropical and temperate seas of both hemispheres. In Tasmanian waters, this species has been recorded as beak(s) recovered from the guts of beached whale(s).
