Veneridae – Tapetinae: Venerupis (Paphirus) anomala (Lamarck, 1818) (‘little bean venus’)

Synonym(s): anomala Lamarck, 1818 exilis Lamarck, 1818 fabagella Deshayes, 1854 reticulata Tenison-Woods, 1876.
Typical shell-length 25 mm. The prevalence of dark chevrons towards the lateral margins tends to diminish with age. Lives subtidally in crevices amongst rocks and seaweed, especially in moderately sheltered environments. Native. Endemic to southern and eastern Australia (QLD, NSW, TAS, VIC and SA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a widespread and common species.
