Veneridae – Tapetinae: Venerupis (Paphirus) largillierti (Philippi, 1847) (‘New Zealand venus’)

Synonym(s): largillierti Philippi, 1849.
Typical shell-length 70 mm. Young shells may bear numerous fine, dark chevrons. Lives subtidally in sand and mud, in moderately sheltered environments. Non-native. Occurs in southeastern Australia (TAS only); also New Zealand. In Tasmanian waters, this species is now widespread along the E coast and common in the SE following unintentional introduction from New Zealand; commercially harvested for food.
