Batillariidae: Zeacumantus diemenensis (Quoy & Gaimard, 1834) (‘common mud-creeper’)

Synonym(s): diemenensis Quoy & Gaimard, 1834 cerithium Quoy & Gaimard, 1834 turritella Quoy & Gaimard, 1834.

Typical shell-length 25 mm. Lives intertidally and subtidally on mud and amongst seaweed and seagrass, especially in moderately sheltered environments. Native. Endemic to southeastern and southwestern Australia (TAS, VIC, SA and WA). In Tasmanian waters, this is a widespread and locally abundant species.
